Whereas
German speakers always 'make' their photographs, English
or French speaking photographers 'take' pictures. Ideally,
photography always involves both capturing the moment,
as well as creating some novel, perhaps previously unrevealed
reality.
Having devoted a lot of time and money of younger years
on cameras and darkrooms, I had almost given up photography
during my studies. However, the recent acquisition of
a digital camera allowed me to revive the old passion
without choking on chemicals or spending a small fortune
on equipment. And the opportunity to put some galleries
online provides me with a chance to show what I've 'made'
as well as to give back some of what I've 'taken'.
